Selecting Profitable Domain Names
There are a few types of domains to choose from. The two (2) most common are Vanity and Traffic domains.
Vanity Domain Names
Vanity Names – these can be names someone wants to use for their business. They usually make some kind of sense to the people who are attracted to them, although I've created and sold many names that didn’t make much sense. So, go figure.
Keep this is mind: “A domain is worth whatever someone is willing to pay for it”
There’s a lot of new businesses starting up every day. This day and age, a business is antique if it doesn’t have a web presence. For some businesses, their domain names will have been already taken, most likely by a domainer. These businesses will approach the holder of the domain to make a deal to acquire the domain name. I have sold quite a few of these for an average of $500 per domain. These domains only cost me registration fee, so that’s a nice ROI. Even if you made only $50 on a domain, that’s a great return on your $10 investment!
When creating or buying a vanity domain, the more descriptive it is, the more valuable it will be. The most valuable extension is .com. .net follows, then .org. This will not change anytime too soon. Traffic Domain Names
When parked at Aftermarket sites like Sedo.com, these domains generate advertising revenues. The traffic statistics sell on these domains. So they all have some value. Their worth depends on the statistics. There are people who are making thousands of dollars of passive income just by keeping their names parked at these aftermarket sites that offer parking (pay per click) revenues.
One way to acquire a traffic domain is by getting one that was a former website. Ways to check if the domain was formerly a website and if it had dome traffic:
1. Go to http://www.Archives.org and type in the domain in the Way Back Machine to see if there's any history there.
2. Go to http://www.MarketLeap.com and click on Link Popularity and see if there are any sites linked to it.
3. Also see if there's an Alexa ranking at http://www.Alexa.com.
Another way is to type a domain name in the Overture Keyword Suggestion Tool. http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Type in the domain name along with the TLD (extension) like so: domainname.com If you see some results, then there might be a chance that the domain name will get some PPC (Pay Per Click) traffic. It's not a guarantee that it will generate parking revenue. The best and easiest way is to buy domain names from others who can show you snapshots of the domain name's revenue statistics.
